Kelly Lemon

Hi! I'm Kelly Lemon. I am a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.

When I started my Midwifery journey it was always with the intention of:

1) empowering women and pregnant people

2) caring for individuals in recovery or those with substance use

3) helping those with anxiety, depression, and/or trauma to feel safe

This page is a combination of those intentions and an outlet for my passion on the subjects.

Through my career I have been very sensitive and aware of the barriers women with a history of substance use, anxiety, depression, and/or trauma face in getting quality care. The addition of a pregnancy adds further complications to getting enough support. There are a variety of causes for the barriers women face, but the most significant one that I witnessed was within the healthcare system- the stigma, bias, and misinformation provided to vulnerable women during pregnancy.

No one should have to be afraid of asking their provider for the information they need for a healthy recovery and pregnancy.

The pitfalls of the healthcare system was not entirely the fault of bad providers. The issues stem from the system, which is not conducive to quality care. Providers are pushed to their limits in clinics and hospitals- with too many patients and not enough staff.

I was doing the best I could to reach the women I cared for my community, but felt it was not enough. Increasingly, I would meet women after the healthcare system had already left a negative mark. I wanted to share my messages to everyone who needed to hear it.

This page represents my own thoughts and opinions- not of my employer or professional organizations that I am a part of. While I hope to make some information accessible for women and pregnant persons, this should not be used as direct medical advice. Everyone is unique, and most things are not one size fits all. I firmly believe that everyone should make decisions regarding their health and needs with providers that they trust who know their history and circumstances.
